Bio

Short Bio - 14 year old Anna Johnson has been working on song writing and performing original songs and was honoured to be selected as a Stingray Rising Star Young Performer at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in July of 2018. Shortly after returning from the Folk Festival she became the Youth Grand Winner of the 2018 K-Days Talent Search. This past spring she was a featured performer as part of “Crescendo 2018” with John Cameron Changing Lives Foundation – at the Francis Winspear Centre in Edmonton. In October Anna M Johnson was the “Young Albertan” selection for the 2017 Alberta Showcase of the Touring Arts Alliance of Alberta. The 2016 Junior Winner at Big Valley Jamboree’s - ATB Financial Homegrown Stage Competition, she was also a Youth Finalist in 2017. You can also see her performing locally at coffee shops, at the Edson Rotary Art in the Park 2018 and at the Stettler Variety Showcase in April of 2019. started acting in 2015 when she was cast in her first theatre role as Jane Banks for the Festival Players production of “Mary Poppins - The Broadway Musical” at Festival Place. She took on the role of Susan Gillis in the ensemble of the 2016 production of “Anne of Green Gables - The Musical”. Anna continues to enjoy her music as well as acting in local theatre productions and participating in dance.
Long Bio - Anna Johnson finds her inspiration in Musical Theatre, and Dance. She enjoys Jazz, R & B, Folk, Pop and Indie genres of music. She tends to fuse these when she sings bending genres to fit what she hears in her minds eye. Anna started performing at 9 years old. Her first performances were at her local Talent Quest where she placed in the final 10 amongst ages 8-18.
Anna is the youngest of 2 sisters. Anna also works hard on dance, and acting as well as her vocals. She has received Top Ten solo competition scores for her level in Modern and Musical Theatre and continues to persue Royal Academy of Dance Training in Ballet. She has performed in 2 Musical Theatre Shows in her local area. Being cast in the role of Jane Banks in “Disney’s – Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical” was her favorite.
Anna has performed all over her native Alberta vocally and has travelled as far as Manitoba to participate or perform in festivals and competitions. Her favorite charities to perform in as a volunteer include "Crescendo - John Cameron Changing Lives Foundation", “CIBC Run for the Cure”, “CNIB – Concert in the Dark” and “The Ovarian Cancer Canada Society – Walk of Hope”.
Part of a family of artistic personalities which include artists in sculpture, painting and visual arts, dancing and ballet, and music, Anna earned a coveted spot in July 2018 at the Winnipeg Folk Festival as part of their Young Performer Program. She is the 2018 Youth Grand Winner of the K-Days Talent Search and the 2016 Junior Winner of the Big Valley Jamboree – Road to the Main Stage on the ATB Family Homegrown Stage. Having also been a BVJ youth finalist in 2017, an All Ages K-Days Talent Search Junior Finalist in 2015, 2016.
Anna’s mentors include Rita McDade of the Fusion Blues Band who was her original music teacher, Erika Noot, Shelley Tookey and Wes Inaba. Her parents were from opposite sides of the North American Continent, one born in Canada and one in the USA.
When Anna is at home, she enjoys reading books, playing the guitar and picking out new songs on the piano. She also enjoys reading, performing in her dance groups and writing songs.

  • Winnipeg Folk Festival- The 45th edition not only featured musical talent commonly recognized in the industry, but also provided a platform for up and comers in the music industry during the Stingray Young Performers Program. The Young Performers Program included 43 music artists, such as Winnipeg’s Taylor Janzen, Regina’s Ava Wild, Anna M Johnson of Sherwood Park, Alta., Ben Heffernan of London, Ont., and Dugald’s Nic Dyson.

Anna Johnson is the 2016 Big Valley Jamboree (BVJ) ATB Financial Homegrown Talent Stage junior winner. It is 12-year-old Johnson’s third time entering the contest.
